Sept. 12 – Election Integrity

Following the organization’s viewing of Dinesh D’Souza’s 2000 Mules, last June, Hefner pledged to discuss the election remedies Texas lawmakers put in place following the passage of SB 1, also known as Election Integrity in September.  A Q & A period will follow Hefner’s presentation. Those planning to attend are asked to bring their questions.

Authored by our distinguished Senator Bryan Hughes and passed during the 86th Second Special Session, SB 1 makes it easier to vote and harder to cheat. However, from prosecutorial authority by the state attorney, as well as other issues, Texans still have some work to do.

Additionally, authorized by Texas Election Code Title 9, Subchapter A, Section 146, effective January 1 of 1986, one may file for a write-in candidacy in the General Election for County Officer.  According to Texas Election Code, a write-in candidate is not permitted in a runoff election.  Nor may a write-in candidate be a candidate in the previous primary.

Republican Election Judge, former Republican Party of Upshur County Precinct Chair, for Precinct 14, and State Delegate to the Republican Party of Texas State Convention, Robert Perry filed for a write-in candidacy against current Commissioner Jay Miller.  Miller, a Republican, has been Commissioner since 2019 and received no opposition in the recent primary. 

Both Commissioner Miller and Robert Perry have been invited to briefly speak at the September 12 meeting. Voters may talk to the candidates upon the adjournment of the meeting. 

The public meeting is free, open to the public, and student-friendly.
