Aug 8 – Charles Van Cleef, 6th Court of Appeals

What is a Judicial Conservative?

East Texans for Liberty’s August public meeting will be Charles Van Cleef, Candidate for the Sixth Court of Appeals, Place 3 on Monday, August 8, 2022.  The meeting will be held at Barbwire Halo Cowboy Church located at 6761 State Highway 154 West, Gilmer, specifically six miles west of the Upshur County Courthouse.  The doors open at 6:00 PM, the complimentary dinner is at 6:30 PM, with the program to begin at 7:00 PM.

“On the menu will be lasagna, bread, and salad,” said Darlene Rappazzo Hospitality Director.

“Justitia, Lady Justice, has been ‘blindfolded’ since the 15th century. The blindfold signifies the ability to be impartial, that justice should be measured accurately without fear or favor, regardless of race, gender, religion, personal wealth, or power. Judges play an enormous role in our society. No other official can by his ruling alone change the lives of a person, an entire family, or a nation. People tend to forget, or not even realize, that their lives can be drastically transformed by the decisions of a judge and jury,” said Sonja Harris, a Comal County citizen journalist.

Charles Van Cleef was born in Fort Worth and raised in Tyler, Texas; he has lived in Longview, Texas for over 20 years.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1992.  While completing law school, he worked for the federal court in Tyler, Texas, and continued with that court, after graduation and licensure, for several years.  In private practice, Justice Van Cleef worked throughout East Texas in State and federal courts, both trial, and appellate.

Justice Van Cleef’s return to public service and judicial career began in April of 2022 when he was appointed to the Sixth Court of Appeals,  by proclamation of Governor Greg Abbott, for a term set to expire on December 31, 2022, or until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified.

“Saturday, August 6, 2022, a little over 250 of the Sixth Court of Appeals District Executive Committee for the Republican Party have the opportunity to participate in a meeting to place a name on the General Election ballot in November,” said the Texas Republican Party Chairman Matt Rinaldi.

“Four members of East Texans for Liberty’s team are Precinct Chairs; Sherry Breedlove is the RPUC Precinct Chair in Precinct 9; Mary Anne Farrow is the RPUC Precinct Chair in Precinct 10; Marty Rhymes is the RPGC Precinct Chair in Precinct 12; and myself for RPUC Precinct Chair in Precinct 13.  We are excited to participate,” said Stacy McMahan Executive Director.

Justice Van Cleef has been a member of the State Bar of Texas since 1993 and has also been admitted to practice before numerous federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States.

The meeting is open to the public, free, and student-friendly.
