2025 Carol Meyer Memorial Scholarship Recipient Brendon Deary

East Texans for Liberty (ET4L) is thrilled to announce Brendon Deary of Gladewater, Texas, as the deserving recipient of the prestigious 2025 Carol Meyer Memorial Scholarship.

“A proud graduate of Union Grove Senior High School, Brendon exemplifies the spirit of determination and academic excellence that this scholarship celebrates,” said Mary Anne Farrow, Chair of ET4L’s Education Committee.

Farrow had the honor of presenting Brendon with the scholarship during the high school’s awards banquet on Thursday, May 8, 2025, surrounded by his peers.

Brendon stood out among fifteen dedicated applicants from Upshur County, all vying for support to further their education in either academic or trade disciplines. His passion for understanding complex issues was evident in his response to this year’s thought-provoking essay prompt, devised by Grace Farrow Rowe, a member of ET4L’s Education Committee: “How do you think social media influences political opinions among young people today? Do you think it needs to change? If so, how?”

Balancing impressive academic performance and active participation in extracurricular activities, Brendon consistently made the A-B honor roll and excelled at the state level in both UIL speech and One Act Play. Brendon claimed that his experience in communications and leadership will benefit his future career as a news reporter.

“Brendon not only met the scholarship’s rigorous criteria but also offered insightful solutions in response to this year’s essay question,” remarked Stacy McMahan, ET4L’s Executive Director. “All participants recognized that social media can often distort political narratives, emphasizing the need for younger generations to seek factual information beyond these platforms, enabling them to become informed voters at the ballot box.”

“Your generous donations to ET4L make these impactful scholarships possible for Upshur County students aspiring to continue their education in either academic and trade fields.
